Pacific Island filings

We regularly file trade mark and patent applications in the small Pacific Island jurisdictions of Kiribati, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

Registrations must be based on UK national registrations in Kiribati, Tuvalu and Solomon Islands, while applications in Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu must go through an independent examination and opposition process.

Registrations are valid for the life of the UK registration in Kiribati, Tuvalu and Solomon Islands. Independently registered trade marks are valid for 10 years in Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu.

The time frame for registration varies for each country and factors such as personnel, funds and availability of other resources in the national registries have a great impact on the registration process.

Our Fiji-based team visits the registry at regular intervals to follow up on pending applications.
