Varun gained his law degree from the University of Waikato, New Zealand in 2001. He was admitted to the High Court of New Zealand and to the High Court of Fiji in 2001.

Varun joined Munro Leys in 2002. He now practises in the Commercial Group principally in the areas of banking and finance, company law and regulation, employment, foreign investment and tourism.
